Barama Blow
My name is Barama Blow. I am a proud Goreng Goreng (Bundaberg)/Noonuccal (North Stradbroke Island) man. My totem is the Green Sea Turtle (Boonbiah) but raised on Bunnurong land in Melbourne Victoria.
From a young age I learnt my culture from my father. He taught me many things about our culture and to always be proud. He had me dancing in a traditional men’s dance group and playing the Yidaki (didgeridoo). We did performances at venues like Bunjilaka at the Melbourne Museum and I still have fond memories of doing dance performances with my brothers and father each Sunday to tourists during my summer school holiday period. I enjoy work in schools via cultural workshops to educate youth about cultural understanding and practices. As Australian's I strongly believe that indigenous or not, we should all grow up with an understanding of First Nations Culture because with education comes understanding and the breaking down of stereotypes.
